Unfold Magazine
Inspired by a children's book, Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes, I designed two feature spreads based on illustrative and typographic treatments. In these two features, I introduced origami characteristics such as dotted lines, delicate patterns, and basic diagram grids. The first illustrative spread consists of flat, colourful cranes. The wings of the cranes are opened to represent freedom. Arranged in a circular pattern, the cranes are repeated across all the pages to symbolize unity. The second typographic spread consists of angular, colourful letters that imitate paper cranes hanging from a ceiling. The headline is placed on intersecting angles to generate breezy movements, and spans across all the pages to create continuity. In these two designs, I wanted to create a graceful and hopeful feeling to honour a meaningful legacy.
